The Alan and Ann Craft DoorWay Recovery Center
Open Door Mission’s DoorWay Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program employs a multi-level approach to drug and alcohol recovery. It’s an intensive, 9-month, Christ-centered program designed to help students overcome drug and alcohol addictions. When men enter the program, they are involved in a comprehensive curriculum of
self-discovery, life-skills, and spiritual renewal, and Bible study. They also participate actively in mentoring, counseling, and 12-step work.
An integral part of Open Door Mission’s DoorWay Program is EEG-OC Biofeedback Therapy, a collaborative program with Southwest Health Technology Foundation that we have operated continuously since 1999.
The Success of Biofeedback coupled with Faith-Based Programs
In a 2005 article published in The Journal of Neurotherapy, read specifically about Open Door Mission’s Biofeedback program, the researchers conclude that “the combination of electroencephalographic operating conditioning (EEG-OC) and faith-based programs is effective in the treatment of crack-cocaine addiction.”
The researchers further demonstrated that the ‘relapse’ rate of cocaine addicted men can be significantly reduced using EEG-OC, especially when it is used as an adjunctive therapy with Open Door Mission’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation and recovery program. In fact, EEG-OC shows a much lower ‘relapse’ rate of 51% compared to 65 to 70% for more traditional methods of drug and alcohol recovery.
Additionally, the researchers found that after 12 months, the combination of EEG-OC and Open Door Mission’s faith-based program had a dramatic effect on other ‘lifestyle’ issues; for example,
- 92% of the men were maintaining a regular residence
- 91% were employed or in school
- 89% had no subsequent arrests
- Depression and anxiety levels dropped dramatically
