Numerous studies show that education is the escape hatch out of poverty. Open Door Mission provides GED courses to not only our residential clients but the community as well. All services are free of charge – we even pay the testing fees.
Our GED classes are taught in English and Spanish and have several working-parent friendly aspects not available at other programs.
* Our program is self-paced so that students learn at their own pace, not that of the class.
* We have open-enrollment, allowing students to start whenever they are ready instead of having to wait for the beginning of the next semester.
* Other programs drop students if they miss more than three classes. We work with students and are willing to pick back up where they left off, regardless of how much time has elapsed since they last attended.
Our Education Center also offers Basic Computer Skills classes to our residents. These classes help prepare our students for the competitive job market they face upon graduation. Skills taught include basic computer operations, typing, MS Word, email, and resume development.
