By participating in the Summer of Volunteering, you aren’t just helping the men in our shelter program today. You are helping prepare a place of hope for the individuals and families in Houston who are struggling with homelessness, hunger, and hardship.
Many of us have experienced the moment when someone approaches us on the street asking for help. In that moment, we may not have the resources to meet their real needs. A handout may help for a moment, but lasting change requires something more — a place where people can find Hope, Healing, and Help
Because of your service, when you encounter someone in need, you can say with confidence: “There is a place prepared for you.” A place where men can find shelter and recovery, where families can receive food and support, and where individuals can take their next step toward healing and restoration.
This summer’s projects will help improve the Dignity, Function, and Beauty of our Mission, strengthening the spaces and ministries that serve men, women, children, and families across our community. Through every project completed and every hour volunteered, you are helping create an environment where lives can be changed and hope can grow.
Dignity Function Beauty
Build and plant our vertical garden
A significant part of rehabilitation for men coming off the streets is the dignity of healthy, whole foods, and the chance to do real, meaningful work. A vertical garden could provide our men with real opportunities to do the therapeutic work of maintaining a garden, while also personally reaping the benefits of their labor by enjoying the food they helped cultivate
Build a cover for our Food Distribution
We are regularly giving away free food to thousands in our community through our food distribution in what used to be just a basketball court. As the summer heat approaches, we need to build a cover for this court, to protect our food and the people coming from the community to our distribution.
Redesign our 'Nook'
When our men are coming off the streets, one of the most dignifying ways we get to serve them is by providing nice, appropriately fitting clothes. We are currently in need of an overhaul of our 'nook' where these clothes are distributed. Put your organizational skills to work and re-imagine our nook!
New Courtyard Project
This courtyard will be built right in the middle of our vertical gardens, which will make it the most peaceful, private getaway for our men during their free time. This courtyard will reflect a stark distinction from the streets. Instead of chaos, they will have a place of peace, surrounded by nature. Help us build this therapeutic getaway!
Courtyard Renewal
Our central courtyard is the primary place where our men gather to relax and enjoy each-others company during their free time. Beautifying and improving this space would be a great way to immediately impact every man in the program. This would include pressure washing, painting, installing/ putting together new outdoor furniture.
Neighborhood Cleanup
With the thousands of people who are regularly coming through our neighborhood to collect food, and join our program- we need to ensure that we are stewarding our calling to be good neighbors to those around us. Help us bless the community that we get to serve!

Entrance Beautification
Our Security entrance is the first point of contact for our men coming off of the streets. It is very functional, and it needs your help in ensuring that it reflects the hope and beauty that our Mission represents. From painting & cleaning and more- help us re-imagine our main entrance!
Murals
Are you artistically inclined? Where does your imagination go when you see this courtyard wall, full of potential? Tell a story of hope and healing through your artistic gifts, right in the heart of where our men gather to enjoy one another's company.
Painting/ Pressure Washing
Our walls need a face-lift! Come and take on this project that will immediately improve the aesthetics and feel of our campus!
